How to copy PSX games
The things you will need:
- A CD-R or CD-RW. Remember, an SCSI is better than an IDE drive. But an IDE drive will work. I have burned many games on an IDE drive.
-
- A copying program that supports Disc at Once (DAO) recording. Some good programs are Nero by Ahead Technologies and CDRWIN by Goldenhawk*.
I personally use CDRWIN and have never had a problem copying any PSX game. Don't use Adaptec's EZCD Creator or DirectCD programs. There is a way to get them to work, but its just too much trouble.
- A blank CDR or CDRW disc. Some people swear by more expensive brands like Mitsui, but I use Sony discs (about $1.25 apiece) and have never had a problem copying games. Besides, coastered discs look very nice as wall decorations :)
- A PSX disc you want a copy of. Remember, by law you are allowed a copy of software that YOU own. Use of this information for software piracy is at your own risk.
- A MODchip or Gameshark to bypass the protection code of the Playstation. If you don't have one of these devices, you will have to resort to the "swap" trick.
*Do NOT try to use a black serial number on CDRWIN! It is very heavily protected against this. The demo only copies at 1x but it DOES copy. So quit bitchin' and if you want to copy faster, go and buy it!
Okay, here is how your PSX works:
    1. First off, all PSX games can be copied. Any one who says otherwise is a liar.
    2. Your PSX works by reading the BAD SECTORS on the disc. This is how your Playstation knows if the disc is a copy or real. Most copy programs simply
correct the bad sectors, hence rendering the copy useless except as a coaster.
    3. Your Playstation also checks what kind of disc is being used. It checks for the black bottom of the disc. This also tells it if the disc is a copy or not.
Now on to how to copy!
How to copy: Method 1--2 drives with CDRWIN
Place the original in your CDrom drive.
Place a blank CDR disc in your recorder
Choose "make copy" from options screen
Do NOT change any of the settings! The only thing to change is the retry count. Put as many 9's as you can in this window.
Make sure the "copy to image" option is checked. It only takes an extra 5 minutes to do this as opposed to copying direct to disc, so you're not saving that much time by going direct to disc. As I write this I am looking at a bunch of coastered discs that are decorating my wall. Don't let this be you!
